Curcuma Longa Dried Turmeric Slices
Turmeric also known as Indian Saffron, were native herbaceous perennial plant native to Indian sub continent and South East Asia. The most common variety is Curcuma Longa, its part of Zingiberaceae ginger family. Turmeric contains 3-8% curcumin, which is a bioactive polyphenol compound, has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. Because of these properties, curcumin has many health benefits. Turmeric powder has a warm, bitter, black pepper-like flavor and earthy, mustard-like aroma.
Ideal Turmeric cultivation requires temperatures between 20 and 30 °C and high annual rainfall to thrive. But you also need to consider some important factor such as :
- 1. Variety and propagation method
- 2. Well-drained loamy soil is ideal. Turmeric can't tolerate waterlogging.
- 3. Beds or Ridges preparation
- 4. Plant care such as mulching, weeding and irrigation
- 5. Organic fertilizer
- 6. Pest and Disease Management
- 7. Post harvest handling such as storage and drying
All of those factor will have direct impact to the harvest quality.
